Dee Benians
Partner, Private Client Team
Dee is a partner in the private client team, specialising in advising clients on making a will, drafting a lasting power of attorney, inheritance tax planning, applying for probate and the administration of estates.
She gets to know clients on a personal level, building a long-term relationship to offer advice and guidance through some of life’s most important decisions, and has been commended by clients for delivering a ‘professional, efficient service, whilst retaining empathy and understanding’.
Dee can mediate in disputes between family members where a person has died without a Will, which can include helping negotiate deeds of variation to re-direct part of an estate. She also advises executors on trusts and tax issues. Her sensitive and practical nature makes her an excellent negotiator, who is able to diffuse otherwise stressful family situations to find a solution.
Dee is a tenacious lawyer and a keeps a close watch on everything that is going on, especially where there are vulnerable or elderly clients involved. She oversees the registration of enduring powers of attorney when an individual has lost the capacity to manage their own affairs and ensures that the appointed attorneys are made fully aware of the required codes of conduct as regulated by the Office of the Public Guardian.
Before embarking on her legal career, Dee was a professional musician. She continues to be active as a musician, dividing her time between two London churches at weekends and as a member of the Holst Singers.
Qualifications
Dee qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in July 2015 and joined Hughes Solicitors in November 2015. Before that she spent four years with a firm in Eastbourne gaining considerable experience of wills, lasting powers of attorney and in the administration of estates.
