Solicitor, Private Client Team
Ruth is a private client solicitor and has been advising individuals and families on wills and probate matters since 1988.
Described by her clients as ‘friendly and efficient’, Ruth provides practical solutions on a variety of estate planning and personal tax planning matters, before carefully sculpting wills to reflect their intentions.
She always takes the time to listen and understand the full picture before providing considered advice to help clients achieve their objectives. Whether this is transferring assets into a trust to safeguard vulnerable family members or advising unmarried couples on the implications of their wills on each other and their children.
Ruth helps bereaved relatives with the whole process of administering the estate of the person who has died, from completing the inheritance tax return and obtaining the Grant of Probate, to advising on post death tax saving for families and assisting executors with preparing the accounts.
Ruth is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and formerly a council member and treasurer of the Tunbridge Wells Law Society.
In her spare time, she loves being outdoors cycling or hiking. On rainy days, she can be found baking and whipping up culinary masterpieces in her kitchen
Ruth studied for her law degree at Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University) before completing her Law Society finals. She worked at a variety of law firms in Northamptonshire and Kent, before joining Hughes Solicitors in Heathfield in 2017.
