Managing Partner, Head of Private Client team
Hilary is managing partner and head of the private client team at Hughes Solicitors in Heathfield, East Sussex.
She specialises in advising private clients and charities on issues relating to inheritance and tax planning, Court of Protection advice, elderly care, estate administration and charity law.
In the area of succession and inheritance planning, Hilary provides practical help in untangling the complex issues that arise for farmers and business owners as well as those wanting to provide protection for relatives with a disability or mental health problems.
Hilary is regarded as a trusted family advisor to many clients, building a long-term working relationship to develop an in-depth knowledge of each client’s legal affairs to ensure their objectives can be achieved.
Hilary grew up in Eastbourne and is a member of St Thomas of Canterbury Church Mayfield finance committee. In her spare time, she enjoys canal boating on the British waterways.
Hilary was admitted as a solicitor in 1976 and was a partner at two regional law firms in East Sussex, prior to establishing H&R Hughes Solicitors in April 2009.
She is a committee member of the Sussex Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and a member of the Solicitors for the Elderly. She is also a contributor to Jordan’s Older Clients Precedents Manual.
